Modelling the columns and lanterns

So I am basically going to use reference from the "real" world to for my modelling. Using the columns and the lanterns of Liston Street (again) I am aiming to make them look as identical as possible, along with the archers. There is a lot of detail going on in the lanterns so I am not sure if I will be able to make them look the same as there is not that much time available.

COLUMNS

bevelled edge

So here are the columns which I need to work on more. I tried to bevel them for instance but there seems
to be a problem with the edges.

LANTERNS

This is my first lantern attempt. It's way too simple so I will go for a more interesting look like the one above.

All in all there is a lot of stuff in Maya I am not aware of like how to make swirls for the lanterns or how to solve my bevel problems.I will be asking Alan for his advice so I can progress in my modelling work.

  1. Andriana - remember that Jon Stewart is blog watching too - be sure to make a post 'for his attention' asking for just this kind of advice...

  2. Good move, reference reference reference.
By the way, post up wireframes along with the shaded views too. It allows people to give more technical feedback re. modelling.
